Technology Specialist Implementation Reflection

My Technology Instructional Design

Working closely with a technology specialist, we brainstormed a problem that could be solved using technology. A problem that does not seem to be a particularly clear cause-and-affect situation, it is a slow burner that could be causing long lasting issues. Students are not fully connected to their academic journey because the progress monitoring process is neither streamline nor productive. Each class a student takes has a different procedure to how students are expected to keep up with their grades and track overall progress. The technology specialist and I have come up with the idea of finding a technology platform that would allow teachers to submit completed work and allow students to monitor their work moving forward.

Reflection of the Process

Starting this journey, I was eager to find a resource that could solve or better the problem at hand. However, it was much harder to find a tech tool that met specifics I was looking for like being student-friendly, can be streamlined throughout the school, and has easy access for all participating parties (students, parents, and teachers). Before landing on the platform I found, Alma, I found two other resources that felt more aligned with my mission of this project. Unfortunately, both of the apps had been removed or were unaccessible. With all that said, I found Alma and was happy with the user-interface and overall design that allows all parties an insight to the student's learning process.

Even though I have come across some speed bumps, I am still looking forward to sharing my findings and solve this problem as best I can. Whether I am successful in solving this problem, I am learning something through the process of identifying problems to be solved with tech, researching apps and websites that are school-friendly, and working closely with a tech specialist that is teaching me a lot about the field.
